Salford, Shrewsbury and MK Dons eye move for Will Grigg with Lee Johnson looking to free up wages

Salford City, Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons are eying up a move for Sunderland striker Will Grigg, according to reports.

Freelancer Pete O'Rourke has claimed all three are keen on taking the struggling striker off Sunderland's hands.

The Northern Irishman has failed to live up to his price tag on Wearside and struggled for goals.

Earlier this season Lee Johnson said he believed he could bring the best out of Grigg again, but now wants to free up some up wages with the club at the upper limits of the League One salary cap.

The Black Cats did try to offload the 29-year-old last January, with Salford once again keen, but nothing came to fruition.

Sunderland are in the market to bring in a striker with right attributes to fit Johnson's style of play, but players need to move on before that's possible.

The departure of George Dobson has freed up some space to bring in a goal scorer, but the departure of Grigg would only increase the financial scope to bring someone in.
