Salford set to part company with Richard Marshall after one season in charge

Salford Red Devils are set to part company with Richard Marshall.

Rugby League Live understands that Marshall could leave the Red Devils after just one season in charge of the Super League club, with talks taking place in the last 48 hours over an early end to his time in charge at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Former Halifax coach Marshall was appointed as Ian Watson's successor at the beginning of this season, but Salford have struggled to replicate the success of the tail end of Watson's time in charge.

Salford finished 11th after a difficult, inconsistent season, recording just seven wins from 22 games in charge of the club in Super League.

Marshall and Salford had undergone a major rebuild for 2022, with a number of new signings lined up to join the club, including boyhood Red Devils fan Ryan Brierley. Matty Russell is also joining from the Centurions, and their highest-profile acquisition is Brisbane half-back Brodie Croft on a two-year deal.

However, they could now all be working under a new coach after Marshall's tenure was cut short after just one year.

The likes of Chris Chester, Danny Ward, Andrew Henderson and current Red Devils staff member Paul Rowley would all likely be in contention to replace Marshall if an exit is agreed.

But the former Halifax coach's departure will come as a major surprise to Salford supporters just days after the conclusion of the regular season.
