Salford's children's play parks to close amid new coronavirus measures

Children’s play parks in Salford are to close as the council introduces tougher measures in an attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Salford council is the latest borough in Greater Manchester to shut children’s playgrounds in a bid to enforce social distancing rules.

Manchester, Wigan, Bolton and Bury have also closed children’s play areas.

Salford council confirmed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service this morning that it would be introducing the new measures.

They added that parks in the city would remain open for ‘exercise only’.

The move comes after residents across the country were seen ignoring the government’s calls to social distance over the weekend.

Crowds flocked to the country’s parks, markets and beauty spots despite calls to keep away from other people as the UK looks to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

Salford has already closed its council buildings while across the country, bars, restaurants and cafes were told to close on Friday evening.

Last night, even stricter measures were introduced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson who ordered a lockdown.

It means that all shops - except for those selling food and pharmacies - will close, while Britons will only be able to leave their homes to shop for food, for a medical need, for one form of exercise a day, or to travel to work - but only then if it is ‘absolutely necessary’.
