Salford Royal Hospital reports no new Covid-19 deaths for the first time in three weeks

No new coronavirus deaths have been reported at Salford Royal Hospital for the first time in three weeks.

NHS England has been posting daily updates on the number of people who have died at hospitals across the country since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak.

So far, a total of 132 people have lost their lives at Salford Royal.

But today's update reported no new deaths at the hospital. It's the first time the total number of coronavirus deaths has stayed the same at Salford Royal since April 6th.

The latest update does not mean that no Covid-19 patients have died in the last 24 hours as there is usually a delay in reporting deaths up to a few days.

However, it is the latest signal that the peak of Covid-19 deaths has now passed during the current wave of infections.

The last time Salford Royal went 24 hours without a single Covid-19 death was on April 3.

The peak days at the hospital were March 29 and April 1, with eight patients dying on both days.

So far, no deaths have been recorded on three of the last four days, April 23, April 25 or April 26. However, that may change with updates later this week.

Across Greater Manchester, hospital deaths appear to have peaked on April 16, when 65 people died in the space of 24 hours.

But these figures are for hospital deaths only, and more people have died in care homes and in the community.

Separate figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that in Salford, one in three Covid-19 deaths were in care homes up until April 10, one of the highest proportions of care home deaths in the UK.
