Salford Red Devils will keep 'underpromising and overdelivering' ahead of huge Leeds Rhinos clash

Paul Rowley has insisted his Salford side will continue to 'underpromise and overdeliver' in their remarkable push to reach the Super League play-offs ahead of a meeting with a Leeds Rhinos side Rowley always felt would force their way into the race for the top six.

The Red Devils, one of the competition's lowest spenders with one of the smallest squads, currently occupy the final play-off berth on points difference ahead of Hull FC. Their opponents this Sunday lie one point and one place further back in eighth, making their meeting at Headingley potentially decisive.

They are, in the eyes of some observers, still an outsider to reach the play-offs given the spending power and squad size of their rivals around them. But Rowley has warned anyone expecting his side to fall away now they are starting to attract attention to prepare to be disappointed.

"We'll keep underpromising and overdelivering," he said. "We'll just keep flying under the radar. We prepare to beat everyone and I know you hear that a lot, but I'd like to think we're a team that has got substance behind our words. Our target now is definitely to get in the six.

"We'll prepare and plan and believe we can beat anyone. This is a special group who want to work for each other, and they're not just colleagues, they're friends. It's a very good place to be."

Rowley did admit though that he wasn't surprised to see Rohan Smith's Rhinos make a push for the play-offs despite a difficult start to the season, and conceded it will be a big ask to come away from Headingley with another two points.

"Leeds have got some healthy bodies, and I always knew they'd be up there," he said. "They're not going away, they're a good club and going to Headingley will be another big event. But we'll take it in our stride and do our best - quite often lately, our best has been enough. We'll go there with our usual attitude and we'll see what happens."
