Salford Red Devils star set to sign new deal

Salford Red Devils have retained playmaker Chris Atkin on a new deal.

Rugby League Live understands the versatile pivot has turned down interest from a rival Super League club to stay at the AJ Bell Stadium next season.

Atkin, 28, has been a consistent performer for the Red Devils during the last 12 months, playing in a variety of positions including fullback, halfback and hooker.

He will now remain with the club moving forward, providing some much-needed stability in the pivots at a time when change is expected.

Kevin Brown is retiring, Tui Lolohea is heading to Huddersfield Giants and Dec Patton is off-contract at the end of the season.

Tonga international Ata Hingano has agreed to join the club and is awaiting his visa, but is expected to arrive this month.

Atkin has enjoyed an impressive rise during his career. He made his professional debut for Swinton in 2014 and after several successful seasons earned a move to Hull KR, where he helped the Robins earn promotion to Super League.

He subsequently joined Salford ahead of the 2020 season, making 11 appearances in his first season.

It will come as good news to Salford fans as Richard Marshall looks to assemble his squad for next season.

Lolohea will be joined by Ikahihifo at Huddersfield next season while Rugby League Live recently revealed that Ken Sio had been offered to clubs.

However, Matty Russell is expected to join the club from Leigh Centurions.
