Salford Quays office development could be turned into flats

Two buildings which make up part of Salford Quays ’ landmark office complex could be turned into flats.

Developers are asking for permission to turn two buildings - Anchorage 3 and 4 - into 130 apartments.

The buildings sit within a wider waterside complex, which has seen companies including Bupa and construction firms Morgan Sindall and Muse Developments - as well as various government departments - make use of the office space in the past.

A spokesperson for the developer’s agent Lichfields has not yet responded to a request for comment about the plans.

But an application was lodged by the developer High Street Group with Salford council ’s planning panel last week.

They show proposals for a mix of studios, duplexes, one and two bedroom apartments across both buildings.

The buildings, which sit behind the Anchorage tram stop, are connected to Anchorage 2, which would stay as office space, according to the planning documents.

Building 3 currently provides 3,236 sqm of office space over seven storeys, while building 4 provides 2,726 sqm of office space across its five storeys.

Developers announced an £8m refurbishment on the complex last year, which included work on the offices in both buildings.

Anchorage is still advertising availability for tenants in all four of its buildings.
