Emergency service crews have pulled a body from the water near the BBC base in Manchester.

Fire service vehicles and numerous police cars could be seen parked near the Alchemist bar at MediaCity.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a body has been found but has not released further details.

Images shared on social media show a large number of police service vehicles parked next to the water and two fire engines.

A police cordon has also been placed around the water and a blue tent has been placed at the scene for forensic teams, the Manchester Evening News reported.

A GMP spokesperson said: "A scene is currently in place close to the Media City Metrolink stop, Salford Quays, following the discovery of a body in the water at around midday on Monday, April 22, 2019.
