Salford murder investigation: Teenager's life 'cruelly taken' in 'targeted' street attack

A teenager's life has been 'cruelly' taken on the streets of Salford.

People have spoken of their shock following the tragedy.

Police launched a murder investigation after the 17-year-old was stabbed to death on Peveril Road last night (Wednesday).

The teenager was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his chest.

He died from his injuries a short time later, police said.

Police said they believe it was a 'targeted attack'.

Following the incident - at around 8.15pm - officers were called to nearby Stowell Street to reports that another boy had been stabbed in the arm.

This teenager had already gone to hospital.

Police attended and a 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody and is being questioned by detectives.

Forensic officers are carrying out investigation work.

One resident who lives near Peveril Road told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s so shocking. His poor parents.

"I’ve been here 26 years and there’s usually no trouble at all. It’s a really nice, quiet area.”

Another woman who lives in the area said: “It’s so sad. I really feel for the family.

"My kids were petrified to go to school this morning, but I told them the police say it was targeted so they would be alright.”

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "After such a dreadful incident like this our thoughts are concentrated with the family of the young man who has lost his life so cruelly on our streets tonight.

"These are the very early stages of our investigation but enquiries so far that this is a targeted attack and we are working hard to identify and bring to custody those that we believe are responsible for this.

"There will be understandable shock in the community after news of this incident but we have a large police presence at the scene and I can assure the public we will be doing everything within our power to take any offenders off our streets."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 2921 of April 21; or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
