Salford man found dead by police two months after he was discharged from mental health unit, inquest hears

A Salford man was found dead by police eight weeks after he was discharged from a mental health unit, an inquest heard.

Brian James Mountford was released from the Meadowbank unit at Salford Royal Hospital on December 12, 2019.

For several weeks after his release, mental health staff unsuccessfully attempted to contact the 33-year-old, police coroner's officer Stefan Wilson told an inquest into his death.

Mr Mountford's healthcare worker raised the alarm on February 5, 2020.

When police attended his house on Kings Road, Irlam, Mr Mountford was found dead.

His death was certified at 7.15pm. He was formally identified from his passport.

Assistant coroner for Manchester west, Catherine Cundy, told Bolton Coroners' Court Mr Mountford's provisional cause of death was 'unascertained due to advanced decomposition'.

Ms Cundy confirmed that following a police investigation, no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement were suspected.

Histology samples have also been taken from the body of Wakefield-born Mr Mountford.

The inquest has been adjourned until July 3.
