Salford 'explosion': Bomb squad called out after reports of 'houses shaking'

The bomb squad has been called out after reports of a huge explosion sound in Salford.

Residents said their houses shook during the enormous bang, adding the noise was "terrifyingly" loud.

A cordon has been put up on Buckingham Street in the Greater Manchester city and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team are at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called at around 9:25pm to an "explosion sound" and officers remain at the scene.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman told Daily Star Online: "A cordon has been put in place while EOD attend the scene as a precaution.

"No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.

"Officers are advising local residents to stay indoors while the scene is being assessed."

A cordon was put in place on Buckingham Street whilst bomb squad examined a car that could be seen with rear end damage (ASP)

Many residents took to social media to share what they had heard.

One Twitter user wrote: “Anyone else in Salford just hear a bang so loud it shook the house?

“All the neighbours out in the street.”

Another, Samantha Bradley, said: "Just went outside to see if I could see anything but nothing?? Weird! Definitely wasn’t normal.

"I'm still scared."

Some reported hearing the sound of sirens and a helicopter shortly after the explosion sound.
