Salford cabbie wanted to charge Aintree race-goers £200 PER TRIP back to Manchester

A Salford cab driver was caught touting for business at Aintree Races - offering to drive people back to Manchester for a whopping £200.

The cabbie was reported to licensing authorities after being spotted in Liverpool by Merseyside Police.

The private hire driver was no doubt keen to capitalise on the thousands of the revellers descending on Aintree for the Grand National today.

Officers from Merseyside's road policing unit, writing on Twitter, said: "A Salford private hire driver was dealt with for attempting to ply for hire at Aintree Races. Driver was offering travel to Manchester for £200!

"He was reported to the licensing authorities."

Under UK law, private vehicle hire drivers must apply to their local council for a licence.

The Randox Health Grand National sets off at 5.15pm and as ever it will be the biggest day of the year for bookies up and down the country and online.

There are 40 runners including last year's winner Tiger Roll who's looking to become the first horse to win back-to-back Grand Nationals since Red Rum.
