Sales hit €1bn at iconic Manchester City shirt sponsor Brother

Sales have passed €1bn at printer, scanner and sewing machine maker Brother, known by many as the 1990s shirt sponsor of Manchester City.

Brother International Europe, which is headquartered in Greater Manchester, has posted the revenue rise for the 12 months to March 31, 2022, compared to the €930.7m it achieved in the prior year.

The Tameside firm, whose parent company’s headquarters are based in Japan, also reported a pre-tax profit of €133.1m, down from €160.9m.

A statement signed off by the board said: "The directors report that turnover is consistent with expectations given the European sales performance and the movement of inventories and reflecting the change in operation by the centralisation of our European consumable business.

"The company continued a process of effective cost management in the current year, which will continue going forward.

"Principally the decrease in profit before tax is due to lower dividends from subsidiaries and the impairment on investments in subsidiaries."
