Sale Sharks publicly accuse Welsh rugby star of diving to try to win penalty in Champions Cup clash

Welsh rugby star Mat Protheroe has hit back at Sale Sharks after the English Premiership side publicly accused him of simulation on Sunday afternoon.

Protheroe was the standout performer in the Ospreys ranks as the Welsh side went down 21-13 in the Champions Cup after a disappointing opening 40.

In the final stages of the match, the Ospreys full-back chipped behind the on-rushing Luke James, who attempted to charge the kick down and the two collided.

Protheroe stayed down to receive treatment but the incident was not penalised by referee Andrea Piardi.

A post on Sale Sharks' official Twitter account read: "Ospreys make a show after Mat Protheroe dives after contact to try and win a penalty.

"Nothing comes and the hosts put the ball into touch 10 metres from the Sharks line."

Protheroe hit back at the club but posting: "Good story, that" accompanied by a clown emoji.
