A construction crane collapsed onto power lines, a shophouse, three cars and two motorcycles on Soi Sala Daeng 2 in Bang Rak district on Friday morning.

One person was trapped in the crane's cab and a few other people were injured.

The incident happened about 9.20am, and totally blocked traffic in the street. Electricity was turned off at the scene to ensure rescue teams safe access.

The injured were motorists and pedestrians. The crane was being used at the construction site of a new residential building.

Soi Sala Daeng 2 links Sala Daeng Road and Convent Road. It lies behind the Silom Complex shopping centre in parallel to Silom Road.

The crane collapse occurred in the middle of Soi Sala Daeng 2. It was expected to take several hours to clear the blockage from the street.
