Sajid Javid under pressure to investigate ambulance service over unnecessary deaths

Health Secretary Sajid Javid is under pressure to investigate failings in the North East Ambulance Service that led to unnecessary deaths of patients.

Senior managers repeatedly withheld key evidence from coroners about deaths linked to service failures, a damning internal report shows.

In some cases, bosses doctored or suppressed evidence to cover up major errors by staff, according to the Sunday Times.

Calling for a probe, Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting said: “Families deserve answers and to see consequences.”

NEAS boss Helen Ray said: “Utmost in our mind are the families and we unreservedly apologise for the distress we’ve caused.”
