Sajid Javid has provided an update on what Boris Johnson will announce at tonight's briefing.
The Prime Minister is set to hold a press conference from Downing Street alongside Chief Scientific Adviser Patrick Vallance and Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty.
The announcement comes as the UK has record numbers of coronavirus tests over the festive period as the highly transmissible Omicron variant surges across the country.

However, the Health Secretary has said there is nothing in the data at this points to suggest "we need to move away from Plan B".
Speaking to broadcasters after a visit at a vaccination centre in south London, he added"I think Plan B, implementing that, has been the right approach and also being absolutely focused on the vaccination programme."
Mr Javid noted "getting to over 75% of eligible adults getting boosted is fantastic" but insisted "we still need to get through to that other 25% and that can really make a difference in how this country gets through this pandemic".
The Health Secretary also confirmed there are no plans to reduce the self isolation period for people who tested positive to five days.
He said: "Our decisions are based on the very latest evidence.
"So we're quite clear where we are with your seven days, but you know, you need those two negative lateral flow tests in the final two days, is the right balanced proportionate approach."
The news of the press conference comes after the Prime Minister issued a warning yesterday that the NHS will be under considerable pressure in January.
Mr Johnson said: "I think we’ve got to recognise that the pressure on our NHS, on our hospitals, is going to be considerable in the the next couple of weeks, and maybe more."
