Saitama Gov. Motohiro Ono urged people to refrain from unnecessary travel to Tokyo from Monday, including entertainment districts, due to widespread infections with the new strain of coronavirus.
There was no order to refrain from commuting to and from work, but Ono asked that people explore the options of telecommuting or flex time.
Speaking at a press conference at the Saitama prefectural office on Sunday, Ono said: "Clusters of infections are not appearing one after another, and cases of infections with unknown origin have not rapidly increased within [Saitama] prefecture.
"The number of patients in Tokyo, with whom we have a close relationship, is increasing. So I'd like us to explore all possible options."
Ono had urged the people in his jurisdiction to refrain from leaving home over the weekend of March 28-29.
