Saints work out free agent OL Patrick Omameh

The New Orleans Saints brought a veteran free agent to their Sunday training camp practice, with Patrick Omameh working out for the team. Mike Triplett of ESPN and Herbie Teope of the Advocate first reported the audition. Omameh has appeared in 67 games (with 56 starts) for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and Jacksonville Jaguars in his seven-year career.

Omameh has predominately lined up at left or right guard, having started full seasons on both sides during his time in the NFL. The Saints could use some depth at the position, though they have some younger options in-house between second-year pro Will Clapp and undrafted rookie Ethan Greenidge. The starting spots at left and right guard are locked in with Andrus Peat and Larry Warford, two Pro Bowlers.

The Saints sit at full capacity with their 90-man summer roster, so they would have to release one player to add Omameh, if his tryout matched their standards at the position.
