Saints wearing white-on-white uniforms at Jaguars, but not Color Rush

The New Orleans Saints will debut a look never before seen in the Sean Payton era on Sunday. Per Rod Walker of Nola.com, the Saints will pair their white away jerseys with white pants — different and distinct from the “Color Rush” alternate uniforms the Saints have worn in two games this season. Walker added that the Saints may use those variants in one more game in 2019, having previously broken them out for contests with the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys.

The move to white pants is an unforeseen development, but not surprising. The Saints have been phasing out the gold pants they’ve worn in 91 of 227 games (including the playoffs) since 2006, breaking them out for just 7 of their last 41 games. Black pants have been the only alternative to gold pants since Payton took over the head coaching job, and it appears those gold trousers may soon be a thing of the past.

For the curious (and superstitious), the Saints have assembled a 76-50 record (.603) in black pants since 2006, which has included a 22-6 stretch (.785) since the 2017 season began. Compared to the 54-37 win-loss record (.593) in gold pants since 2006 and the 3-4 mark (.428) since 2016, putting them back on the shelf might make sense. For the record, none of those win-loss totals include the 10 games the Saints have played in alternate jerseys (three in throwbacks, seven in Color Rush).
