Saints training camp: Tulane coach Willie Fritz visiting practice

NFL training camp practices do more than develop players. They’re often a hub of networking opportunities for the coaching community, offering pro-level coaches a chance to invite their peers at the college level. Both sides are able to see how the other works and maybe learn something from each other, or at least establish connections across their industry.

One familiar local face was spotted at New Orleans Saints training camp on July 29: Tulane Green Wave head coach Willie Fritz, in his fourth year on the job after being hired back in 2016. Tulane tied went 7-6 last year and won the 2018 Cure Bowl handily, dropping the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 41-24. Rod Walker of the Advocate first reported Fritz’s appearance at Saints training camp.

The Saints have hosted coaches from a number of college programs this summer, with Dave Aranda and Joe Brady representing the LSU Tigers just a few days ago. Jeff Brohm and the Purdue Boilermakers paid a visit back in minicamps. It sure appears as if New Orleans is quickly becoming a destination for collegiate coaches.
