Saints to wear black jerseys versus Buccaneers in Week 5

The New Orleans Saints will wear black jerseys in their Week 5 home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per an email sent to season-ticket holders on Friday. It marks the third time this season the Saints will wear their black home jerseys after doing so in the season-opener against the Houston Texans and their Week 2 road game with the Los Angeles Rams.

The popular white-on-white Color Rush alternates have become a go-to option when the Saints aren’t wearing black, rather than their traditional white away jerseys. It’s unclear yet whether the Saints will pair black pants with the black jerseys as they typically do at home, though they usually reserve the gold pants-black jerseys combination for road games.

Here’s the winning percentage for each of the Saints’ different uniform combinations since 2006:

  • White jersey, white pants: 5-2, .714
  • White jersey, gold pants: 33-18, .647
  • White jersey, black pants: 90-56, .616
  • Black jersey, black pants: 26-21, .553
  • Black jersey, gold pants: 40-49, .449

At halftime, the Saints will hold a ceremony inducting late, great defensive end Will Smith to the team Ring of Honor. He will join Pro Football Hall of Famers Rickey Jackson, Willie Roaf, and Morten Andersen, as well as former Saints quarterback Archie Manning and late team owner Tom Benson. Don’t miss it.
