Saints to honor Little League World Champions in Week 1 vs. Texans

The New Orleans Saints will host some local celebrities when they kick off against the Houston Texans on Sept. 9, with the East Bank Little League team joining them in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The East Bank squad won this year’s Little League World Championship against Caracas, having previously upset the Hawaii team to win a national title.

The East Bank team, formed by 10- and 11-year olds from River Ridge, La., earned praise and encouragement from Saints quarterback Drew Brees and head coach Sean Payton during their championship run and represented the state and country well on an international stage.

On Sunday, they toured the Saints team facilities at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center and observed the final walkthrough practice session of the week. Tomorrow, they will be guests of honor in the Saints’ season-opener on another big stage: the first Monday Night Football game of the year.
