Saints stand tall in post-draft NFL power rankings

The latest NFL power rankings from Nate Davis of USA TODAY put some respect on the New Orleans Saints’ name, but he hasn’t seen enough for them to command the spot just yet. Now that the 2019 NFL Draft is behind us, Davis has the Saints ranked third in the NFL behind the reigning champion New England Patriots and insurgent Los Angeles Chargers, writing:

Yep, they keep mortgaging future when draft comes around, but it’s a stratagem future-deprived QB Drew Brees surely endorses.

Elsewhere around the NFC, Davis questions the health of Los Angeles Rams feature-piece running back Todd Gurley and wonders whether they can challenge for another conference title, putting them at the seventh spot. The competing Philadelphia Eagles (sixth) and Minnesota Vikings (fifth) also sit between the Rams and the Saints.

As for the NFC South: the Saints’ division rivals find themselves in a bad way. The Atlanta Falcons have a precarious position (tenth) while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (twenty-first) and Carolina Panthers (twenty-third) are stuck in the basement. A potential third consecutive division title is New Orleans’ to lose.
