Saints sign former Ravens RB Javorius Allen, waive two players

The New Orleans Saints added veteran running back Javorius Allen, as first reported by Field Yates of ESPN. Allen (who also goes by Buck) was one of several free agents that worked out for the Saints a week ago, along with former Carolina Panthers backup Fozzy Whittaker.

Allen was competent for the Baltimore Ravens, appearing in 55 games over his four-year career there, including the playoffs. He logged 340 rushing attempts for 1,249 yards and eight touchdowns. Interestingly for the Saints, he was also a popular option on passing downs: Allen converted 169 targets into 129 receptions for 814 yards and six scores.

That experience could be a serious asset for Allen in New Orleans, as he’ll be looking to win the third spot in the rotation behind starters Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray. He joins a now-crowded room of backs, including last year’s top reserve, Dwayne Washington, as well as undrafted rookie Devine Ozigbo. The Saints also reached an agreement with free agent Matt Dayes.

To accommodate these additions, Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune first reported that the Saints waived undrafted rookie running back A.J. Ouellette and cornerback Jordan Wyatt. This keeps the roster at capacity with all 90 spots filled.
