Saints S Marcus Williams says Thielen, Diggs are the toughest players he’s faced

Saints safety Marcus Williams has shown that he’s serviceable in his three years in the NFL, but for the most memorable play of his career, he’s unfortunately on the losing side of things.

Williams went to tackle Stefon Diggs in the fourth quarter of a playoff game against the Vikings. Williams missed that tackle, Diggs ran down the sideline and just like that Minnesota won the game and the play was dubbed as the Minneapolis Miracle.

Marcus Williams recently wrote about Diggs and Vikings wideout Adam Thielen in The Players’ Tribune article titled “The 5 Toughest Players I’ve Ever Faced.” He ranked Diggs the toughest player he faced, and listed Thielen at No. 2.

Here’s what he said about the duo:

“Both Thielen and Diggs are explosive, and they can also get open. They each have a wide catch radius. If the ball’s coming their way they’re going to get their hands on it … and then probably pull it in.

And, just in general, they like to scramble. When they get out in those scramble rules — when things are breaking down and they come out of their routes — they attack the ball. They go back to get it. They’re tough no matter what they’re doing.”

The good news for Williams and other NFL defensive backs is that those two are no longer on the same team. Diggs was traded to the Bills this offseason, while Thielen is still with the Vikings.
