Saints rule star WR Michael Thomas out for Bears game

Michael Thomas, who last year caught more passes than any player in the NFL history, won’t return to action Sunday against the Bears.

The Saints wide receiver hasn’t played since the season opener, when Thomas suffered a high ankle sprain. Upon returning to practice two weeks ago, he hurt his hamstring. In between, he was disciplined for fighting a teammates during practice.

Thomas provided some hope for a return when he, for the first time since hurting his hamstring, participated in practice Thursday. He was limited both Thursday and Friday.

Thomas caught 149 passes last year for 1,725 yards, and would have given the Saints a tremendous boost at Soldier Field.

The Bears have injury troubles of their own; coach Matt Nagy ruled out center Cody Whitehair (calf), called wide receiver Allen Robinson (concussion protocol) doubtful and star outside linebacker Khalil Mack (ankle) questionable for Sunday’s game at Soldier Field.
