The Jets defense will be tested on Saturday night when Drew Brees and the Saints come to town.
Brees has yet to play in a preseason game in 2019, but that will change against the Jets. With Week 3 of the preseason typically being a dress rehearsal for starters, the Saints’ 40-year-old quarterback will get some reps.
It’s unknown how much playing time Brees will get against the Jets, but it’s better for the Jets defense if he plays a lot. The Jets defense needs to be tested against a great quarterback, especially with all their issues. The cornerbacks have to understand what it’s like going up against a top quarterback because the Jets will see plenty of them in the regular season.
The Jets starters are expected to play the entire first half, but it may be less or it may be a series into the third quarter, according to Adam Gase. Either way, Brees will give the Jets some trouble and that can only benefit them in the future.
