Saints practice with name of ‘Jacob Blake’ taped to front of helmets

The protests are taking on different forms across the sports landscape. NBA and MLB teams boycotted games. Some NFL teams are skipping practices. And the New Orleans Saints made their statement on the front of helmets while practicing Thursday.

The Saints players wore the name Jacob Blake on tape across the front of their helmets, making another powerful statement on social injustice and how important reforms are needed.

Blake, of course, is the man who was shot seven times in the back by a policeman in Kenosha, WI, earlier this week. Reports are Blake is paralyzed from the waist down.

Multiple teams also called off practices.

Per NFL.com:

The Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans all canceled their practices, while the Arizona Cardinals, who were not scheduled to practice Thursday, announced they would not hold team activities. NFL Network’s James Palmer reported the Denver Broncos decided not to practice following a meeting that lasted over two hours.

The Washington Football Team announced Wednesday night that it would not hold its scrimmage Thursday.
