Saints open up as 3-point underdogs at home vs. Cowboys

The New Orleans Saints have improved to a 2-1 record, and will return to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to prepare for a Sunday Night Football game against the 3-0 Dallas Cowboys. The oddsmakers at BetMGM saw enough out of backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and the team around him to place some confidence in their ability to handle the team many consider to be the hottest in the NFL: the opening line favors the Cowboys by just three points, painting the Saints as home underdogs.

With an over/under set at 46.5, that implies a final score of about 25-22, with the Cowboys narrowly winning. On Sunday, the Saints defied expectations to hand the Seattle Seahawks a rare loss at CenturyLink Field in September (Seahawks coach Pete Carroll went into the game with a 15-0 record in such conditions). That caused chaos for bettors, who went into the game with the Seahawks favored by 4.5 points on a 44.5-point spread.

New Orleans has provided one of the league’s toughest home venues in recent years, thanks to an always-engaged fanbase who take pride in disrupting visiting teams by getting (and remaining) loud early and often on game days. Even without starting quarterback Drew Brees calling the shots, the Saints proved they have what it takes to compete with any team anywhere in the NFL.
