Saints open as single-point road favorites over Jaguars for Week 6

It’s been a roller coaster of a season for the New Orleans Saints, who sit on top of the NFC South (and maybe the entire NFC) with a 4-1 record. They’ve gone 3-0 with Teddy Bridgewater under center, temporarily replacing the injured Drew Brees. Bridgewater and the Saints have won games in just about any way imaginable, ranging from a ball-control approach in rainy Seattle against the Seahawks, to a defensive slugfest in prime time versus the Dallas Cowboys, and latest manhandling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Week 6, they’ll fly out for another business trip.

Per the latest odds from Bet MGM, the Saints are narrow favorites to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road — they’re favored by just one point on the opening line, which features an over/under of 44 points. That implies a final score of roughly 22-21, give or take a point for either team.

The Jaguars are in the middle of their own backup quarterback experience, with rookie sixth-round draft pick Gardner Minshew doing his best to keep a flawed team afloat. Minshew has battled in the face of a porous offensive line and depleted receiving corps to keep Jacksonville relevant in the AFC South, putting up an impressive effort in relief of Nick Foles.

Minshew faces his toughest challenge yet when the Saints and their fearsome pass rush (they sacked Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston six times on Sunday) come to town. That Saints defense just might end up making the difference in what could be a close victory.
