Saints make a few tweaks to training camp roster

The New Orleans Saints made a few changes to their training camp roster by adding three free agents and waiving two others. This officially brought them to a full 90-man capacity after having 89 players under contract earlier this week.

Veteran free agents Ziggy Hood and Josh Martin were listed on the NFL transaction wire as having signed with New Orleans, as was T.J. Green. Hood, a defensive tackle on his sixth team, adds an experienced presence to a young group of interior linemen. Martin should compete right away for a backup spot in the linebacker rotation, and he should push for a spot on the final roster as a special teams contributor. Green is a big defensive back (6-foot-3, 211 pounds) and former second-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. He should add some size and athleticism to the mix.

One of the two players released by the Saints was rookie defensive tackle Kenny Bigelow, who was waived with an injury designation and may revert to the injured reserve list. The other was veteran Chad Hansen, who signed with the Saints after minicamp practices earlier this summer. The Saints must like their depth at each of those two position groups to shake things up now.
