The New Orleans Saints continued to load up their defensive backfield in the latest two-round 2020 NFL mock draft from Luke Easterling over at Draft Wire. Because the Saints traded away their second-round pick in next year’s draft (using it to move up for starting center Erik McCoy, and adding another pick that became standout safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson), they had just one selection on hand.
In this mock draft, they used it on Gardner-Johnson’s college teammate: Florida Gators cornerback CJ Henderson. Here’s what Easterling wrote about the pick:
The Saints already have one of the league’s best corners in Marshon Lattimore, but they could use an upgrade on the other side of the field. Henderson still needs to improve his effort and effectiveness in run support, but his size and cover skills alone should make him a first-round selection.
Henderson (6-foot-1, 193 pounds) is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound athletes in college football, boasting weight room numbers that include a 545-pound squat and 380-pound bench press. He’s also recorded jumps of 40.5-inches vertically and 124-inches broad.
On top of that athleticism, Henderson’s playmaking ability has been readily apparent, having started games as a true freshmen for the Gators — in his first 22 games, he’s already recorded 6 interceptions (returning two of them for touchdowns) and 10 other pass deflections, while forcing a pair of fumbles. He’d be a dangerous addition in the lineup across from Lattimore, even if keeping track of so many C.J.’s and CJ’s, not to mention safeties J.T. Gray and T.J. Green, could become difficult.
