Saints hosting Jeff Brohm, Purdue coaches as guests at minicamp

The New Orleans Saints hosted several new faces at their minicamp practice on Wednesday: Purdue Boilermakers head coach Jeff Brohm and members of his coaching staff. They were guests on invitation of Saints quarterback and Purdue alum Drew Brees, per a report from Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune.

Brohm has revitalized Purdue’s program in recent years, winning almost as many games in his first two years on the job (13) as the school accomplished in the five seasons prior (15). Their 2018 season peaked with a 49-20 upset of No. 2-ranked Ohio State, which brought havoc to a Saints locker room filled to the brim with former Buckeyes. Of course, Brees earned his comeuppance when Michigan State took down Purdue a few weeks later.

Whether Brohm and his staff learned anything from their day at Saints practice (or vice versa) is up in the air, but Brees certainly appreciated their presence. If any lighthearted jokes at Ohio State’s expense were made towards Michael Thomas or Marshon Lattimore, no one is talking.

College coaches making appearances at NFL practices is starting to become a trend this year. South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp observed Carolina Panthers practice Tuesday, per Jordan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer. It’s just another crossing of the paths between the NFL and the college ranks.
