St Patrick's Athletic are hopeful of securing the signing of Eoin Doyle but there is still work to be done on getting a deal over the line.
The Saints want to bolster their attack by signing the 33-year-old, who has been plying his trade in England and Scotland for the past decade since playing for Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers in the League.
The Hoops were also believed to be interested in Doyle.
But the Saints are optimistic that the Dubliner will move to Richmond Park, having played alongside the club's new manager Tim Clancy during his spell with Hibs in the SPL - his first port of call when he left Sligo.
Doyle, who is currently with Bolton Wanderers, has also played for Chesterfield, Cardiff City, Preston North End and Swindon Town.
The prolific striker scored 19 goals for Bolton to help the club gain promotion to the League One last season.
And it is believed that the Trotters are willing to release Doyle from his contract early next year if he decides to return home.
Meanwhile, Bohemians have secured striker Promise Omochere on a 'multi-year' contract to remain at Dalymount Park.
Omochere is the 12th member of last season's squad to re-sign for next term, in addition to the five new signings made by boss Keith Long.
Sligo goalkeeper Richard Brush has signed a new contract with the Bit O'Red, bringing his stay to 10 years with the club.
The 37-year-old was injured in pre-season last year and had to be patient as Edward McGinty was first choice for almost the entirety of the League campaign as Sligo earned qualification for Europe.
Brush said: “I knew when I signed last season the quality of goalkeeper was going to be very high and it was certainly the case.
“What has been shown is you have to be ready to play because three goalkeepers were needed to play at various points of the season and four to be in the squad.
"Anything can happen and that’s how all of us will approach it next year."
First Division Wexford have signed former Bohemians and Drogheda striker Dinny Corcoran.
