Saints G.M. Mickey Loomis working virtually after COVID-19 close contact

As a COVID-19 precaution, New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is working virtually from home Thursday due to a high-risk close contact. He was close to someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, and is sequestering himself to avoid a possible spread to the team. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news, which was confirmed by ESPN’s Mike Triplett.

But this likely isn’t a long-term issue. Triplett added that Loomis could return to work at the team facility as soon as Friday, which probably depends on whether he himself continues to test negative (as must everyone who enters the Saints’ headquarters in Metairie).

In the meantime, the Saints have a talented staff of executives to lean on including salary cap guru Khai Hartley, pro personnel scouting director Terry Fontenot, and college scouting director Jeff Ireland. It’s reassuring to know that the Saints have a wealth of knowledge on hand even with Loomis away from the team.
