Saints cut tight end Dan Arnold, per report

The New Orleans Saints waived third-year tight end Dan Arnold, as first reported by Nick Underhill of The Athletic. Arnold was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin-Platteville and originally played wide receiver before the Saints tried to convert him to tight end.

It’s a disappointing finish to Arnold’s stint with the Saints, which included difficulties gaining separation against NFL-quality defensive backs and a few unfortunate drops in big moments, including last year’s NFC championship game. He’s a candidate to return to the practice squad for more development, should he clear waivers.

This leaves the Saints with three tight ends on the depth chart between big free agent acquisition Jared Cook, longtime backup Josh Hill, and rookie draft pick Alize Mack. Veterans A.J. Derby and Garrett Griffin were waived and lost to injured reserve earlier this week.
