Saints cut former Ohio State defensive back Kurt Coleman

Ohio State Buckeyes in the Bayou just got a little thinner, from six to five.

That’s because the New Orleans Saints have cut former Ohio State safety Kurt Coleman via several sources, but first reported by  Nick Underhill of the Advocate.

The move appears to be a combination of cost cutting and the culling of a player that has been on the decline. The veteran safety only played in about 35% of the snaps in 2019, being passed on the depth chart by Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams. The team also had $7 Million locked up towards the salary cap with Coleman, so the move will also free up space to make some moves this offseason.

Coleman earned First Team All-Big Ten and First Team All-American in 2009 at Ohio State, and was picked by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of 2010 NFL Draft.

We’ll have to wait and see if anyone decides to pick up Coleman, or if he ends up moving away from a football career. He turns 31 on July 1.
