Saints break out their “Color Rush” uniforms for Week 8 vs. Buccaneers

Finally: the New Orleans Saints announced Friday that they will be wearing their “Color Rush” alternate uniforms in Week 8’s game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, breaking out the fan-favorite jerseys for the first time in 2021. Teams are only allowed to use these special alternates three times each season, so it made sense to wait for a pivotal game.

And there’s a lot at stake with Tom Brady coming to town. The reigning Super Bowl champions are being teed up for an easy win in the Caesars Superdome on Halloween, but the Saints have frustrated Brady before and they could do it again thanks to their stifling defense. And they’ll look great doing it in their White Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger costumes on Halloween.

If you’re curious, here is the winning percentage the Saints have achieved in each of their different uniform combinations dating back to 2006, when Sean Payton was brought in to coach the team:

  1. White jerseys, white pants: 8-2 (.800)
  2. “Color Rush” alternates: 8-3 (.727)
  3. “Black and Gold” throwbacks: 2-1 (.667)
  4. White jerseys, black pants: 42-25 (.627)
  5. Black jerseys, gold pants: 23-14 (.622)
  6. White jerseys, gold pants: 33-24 (.578)
  7. Black jerseys, black pants: 46-31 (.597)
