Exasperated Jim Goodwin says referee Don Robertson cost his Buddies a historic top six finish.
The gutted St Mirren boss admitted his side had plenty of chances to put Saturday’s crucial clash to bed in the second half, with Jon Obika spurning two excellent opportunities to double Saints advantage and all but guarantee the win they required.
But he still couldn’t help laying into Robertson for handing Hamilton the free kick that ultimately led to Accies’ late leveller, with the Buddies gaffer sent off for his protests at full time.
Goodwin said: “The lead up to the equaliser was pathetic really, refs giving fouls for centre halves competing with 6ft 2ins strikers.
“I don’t know what Joe Shaughnessy is meant to do to go and win the header, but that’s the game we’re in at the moment, unfortunately.
“We’re speaking about referees far too often after games. Don has cost us there today.
“At the end of the day, having played centre half myself, that’s not a free kick and that’s why we are sitting where we are right now.
“He said Joe Shaughnessy caught David Moyo on the face, but having watched it back I don’t see that.
"Moyo ducks down and Joe comes over the top of him to try and win the header. It’s not a foul.
‘If you are going to give free kicks for centre halves trying to compete with strikers in situations like that then every time a ball comes forward it’s going to be a foul.”
