Saints anticipate absence of 2-4 weeks for TE Nick Vannett

Here’s some good news for the New Orleans Saints tight ends room. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Nick Vannett is expected to rest up for two to four weeks after injuring his knee in their recent preseason game with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Vannett underwent an MRI, and it looks like he’s avoided serious injury.

That’s also the case for projected starter Adam Trautman, who is visiting a specialist to set a recovery timeline after an MRI showed that he too dodged a major injury to his foot. It’s unclear when exactly he’ll be cleared to return, but things are trending in the right direction for the Saints in the long term.

Temporarily, though, things are rough. A previous injury to Garrett Griffin has meant the Saints had just two healthy tight ends available for Tuesday’s practice session in Juwan Johnson and Ethan Wolf. They could use another body or two to see them through the final preseason game and maybe the home opener on Sept. 12. New Orleans tried to claim former Houston Texans third rounder Kahale Warring off waivers, but they were unsuccessful. Keep an eye out for any movement on this front.
