Saints announce uniform combination for Week 1 vs. Texans

The New Orleans Saints are making final preparations for their 2019 season-opener against the Houston Texans, and they’ve made one of their most-important decisions just hours before the game: the uniform combination. With the world watching, there’s no bigger factor in how their performance will be reviewed (besides, you know, whether they win or lose).

On Monday afternoon, the Saints announced from their official Twitter account that they will be wearing black jerseys with black pants for the Week 1 kickoff, the first Monday Night Football game of the year. The look was their go-to for home games last season, eschewing the gold pants typically paired with black jerseys. For most of the team’s recent history under head coach Sean Payton, the black-on-black combination was reserved for prime-time night games.

Here’s how the Saints have performed in each of their different uniform permutations with Payton leading the team. It’s worth noting that the white-on-white look is their Color Rush special variant, which was only recently debuted.

  • White jersey, gold pants: 33-18, .647
  • White jersey, black pants: 90-56, .616
  • White jersey, white pants: 3-2, .600
  • Black jersey, black pants: 25-21, .543
  • Black jersey, gold pants: 40-48, .455
