Saint-Etienne, Dumbarton and Michel Platini - the Scots transfer that never was

From The Rock to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard while meeting France legend Michel Platini is the bizarre transfer that never was for Allan Moore.

The current Clyde coach was handed a trial at Saint-Etienne during his early days at Dumbarton - and almost penned a deal to move to France having met Ballon d'Or winner Platini.

On the latest episode of , Moore that before he moved to Hearts he almost ended up at the former Ligue 1 champions.

The ex-winger told host Mark Pirie: "It was a big one for me to break through at Dumbarton. I was playing amateur and youth football at Possil YM the year before.

"I have always went to the Scotland trials and Celtic trials but I always got told I was too wee. It sort of riled me a little bit, because I know I was good enough at the time.

"I'm not big headed, I know when I have a good game and when I have a bad game. Going to Dumbarton was a breath of fresh air.

"Dumbarton at the time had good players and the pitch suited us. I learnt my trade well and it was an enjoyable time.

"I got a wee bit of recognition at that time. I went to Saint Etienne for a trial at the time which has never been heard of. Unfortunately that fell through, and I moved to Hearts."

He went on: "Three of us went over and there was a big kick up at the time because Dumbarton were at the bottom of the league and they thought they were going to lose points because we were away.

"It's interesting, we got put up in digs and shown around by and had a meeting with the chairman. Then it fell through at the last minute.

"It was a wake up call, it was disappointing at the time."
