Sainsbury's shoppers in Nottingham keep to Covid face mask rules

Sainsbury's shoppers in Nottingham are continuing to follow the face mask rules currently in place.

A Nottinghamshire Live reporter took a trip to the Sainsbury's supermarket on Perry Road on Wednesday, April 7.

The supermarket is very popular with shoppers and we went to find out if they were wearing their face masks, as customers have been asked to do for the past year throughout the pandemic.

Rules include wearing masks or some kind of protection, maintaining social distancing where possible and having to queue outside if the store reaches maximum capacity.

During our visit, in the early evening, the majority of shoppers stuck to these rules.

Only two people were not wearing masks inside the store - one of whom was sporting an exemption card around their neck.

Given the fact that restrictions will continue to ease from Monday, April 12, some people in Nottingham may be worried that people would start to ignore the current rules in place at supermarkets.

However, this was certainly not the case during our visit on Wednesday, when the shop was relatively busy with shoppers.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "To keep our customers and colleagues safe when shopping in our stores you must wear a mask or visor unless you have a medical exemption.

"Security guards will support our colleagues at the front of store and will challenge customers who are not wearing masks."

Shoppers are also asked to shop on their own, rather than in big groups - the most people seen in a group during our trip to the shops was just two people.

There was also a security guard on the door, in PPE, ensuring these rules were followed.

Not everyone has to wear a mask, though - some people are exempt from doing so for medical reasons.

This includes Veronica Anthony, who was ordered to leave a Moy Park store in Ashbourne despite carrying her exemption card.
