Sainsbury's shoppers have been left disgusted after footage of two large rats feasting on fresh pastries in a London store has emerged online.
The Mirror reports that footage posted on social media shows the two hungry rodents crawling over an uncovered butter croissant.
The video was captured by videographer Anthony Mitson, who shared the stomach turning footage with his followers in an Instagram story.
The footage shows two large rodents scurrying away in the pastries section of a local Sainsburys in London, before leaping over the open-fronted stand to get away once they realised they had been spotted.
The rest of the clip then panned down the aisle of the local supermarket, which looked to be empty.
In response to the clip, Sainsburys have said that they took "immediate action" to clean the store after the incident happened on Sunday and had called in Pest Control.
However, the damage was already done, as the clip went viral on social media and has been featured in multiple media publications.
One viewer wrote on Twitter: "This video is a perfect example of why supermarkets need to stop selling pastry out in the open like this. It's not just the rats it's the flies too.."
Another wrote: "Gross..."
And a third wrote: "I wish I could unsee this."

Other shoppers seemed to be disgusted at the footage as it's local Sainsbury's where they pick up their groceries from and would be vigilant from now on when in store.
While the general response was obvious disgust, many viewers made light of the situation and likened the footage to a live action version of the Disney classic, 'Ratatouille'.
Following the viral footage, Anthony Mitson shared another video of the store with a sign saying that it would be closed today, which was presumably do deal with the rather hungry rodents.
A Sainsbury's spokesperson has said: ‘We are taking immediate action to clean our Essex Road store and pest control have been called."
"We apologise to our customers who can be reassured we will do everything we can to ensure the problem is fixed as soon as possible."
