Sainsbury's has switched up two popular services recently with one being the air service at petrol stations.
In addition to the change at their petrol stations, they are also introducing an in-store update to their Nectar points system.
As a result of the update, Sainsbury's has scrapped its hugely popular Double Up Nectar points loyalty scheme promotion for 2021 by replacing it with the My Nectar Points offer.
With many customers now 'disappointed' and being unable to use points towards cosmetics, electricals and large shops such as food for Christmas.
The Double Up promotion took place in October and November in 2020 in-store with the promotion unable to be redeemed online. However Sainsbury's has confirmed the event has been scrapped this year.
After hearing the news, many took to social media to complain.
One said: "I actually can't explain how livid I am that Sainsbury's have cancelled their Nectar Double Up this year. I save my points for this!
Another tweeted: "You've made a fortune over the pandemic, yet you cancel double up. Care to explain?"
A third added: "Massively disappointed at the news of the cancelled double up promotion, You have gotten this badly wrong as many folk saved their points for this every year , You will drive loyal customers away with this short-sighted approach."
Despite rumours circulating that customers would lose the points they had save up for, Sainsburys' tweeted: "the double up event will not be going ahead however nothing else will change, you will still keep your points to use going forward."
A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "Fewer customers have been using Double Up over the last few years and so it’s only benefitted a small minority of our customers.
"We know some people will be disappointed to see it go, but we hope more customers will be able to take advantage of our new My Nectar Prices offer.
"This gives customers access to lower prices and personalised offers year-round."
