Sainsbury's resumes foreign currency service for shoppers online and in-store

Sainsbury’s has announced the re-opening of its Travel Money online service following the easing of some Covid travel restrictions.

Customers can order currency for next working day home delivery across the UK, or attend Travel Bureaux inside 226 Sainsbury’s stores ahead of summer holidays.

Customers will once again be able to buy and sell a range of foreign currencies, and transfer money abroad with Western Union at their local Sainsbury’s supermarket. The chain offers 0% commission and competitive rates on all foreign currency, with better rates for Nectar customers.

The easy-to-use service allows customers to order currency online and use an automatic currency converter showing you how much Pounds are worth against other currencies.

The re-opening comes as travel companies have recorded a boom in holiday sales, after the UK and devolved governments announced that Britons would be able to travel to several countries without quarantining on their return.

Travel firms have described seeing the “best day” for sales in months.

Despite the optimism, if holidays are cancelled because of changing coronavirus circumstances, customers can return their travel money at the exchange rate purchased, if they retain their receipt.

Jason King, customer director at Sainsbury’s Bank, said: “We’re delighted to welcome back travel money customers online and to our stores.

"Whether it’s buying currency for a holiday abroad, selling back any extra from your trip or sending money to friends and family overseas with Western Union, we’re open and ready to support however you like to get your currency.”

Strict hygiene procedures will be in place for online and in-store orders to ensure safe handling of cash, protecting both colleagues and customers.
