Sainsbury's renames chicken kievs as it axes products sourced from Russia

Sainsbury's will to stop selling products from Russia, the retailer has confirmed.

And it will change the name of Chicken Kievs to Chicken Kyiv.

This, Birmingham Live reports, is to match the Ukrainian spelling of the capital city.

It's reported that the company said it would be removing Russian Standard vodka and Karpayskiye black sunflower seeds from its shelves.

But it will continue to sell JJ Whitley products after the manufacturer said it plans to move all production to Chorley in the UK.

"We stand united with the people of Ukraine. We have reviewed our product range and have decided to remove from sale all products that are 100% sourced from Russia," the supermarket said.

It comes after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In the latest turn of events, it's reported that efforts to evacuate Mariupol, in south eastern Ukraine, were halted as Russian shelling of escape routes continued despite a ceasefire.

The Mirror Online reports citizens had been given a five hour window to flee the bombed-out city, only for fighting and strikes to cause many to immediately seek shelter or return to their homes.

Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and 'nationalists' have been injured in the conflict.
