Sainsbury’s recalls cheese product and issues 'do not eat' warning to shoppers

Sainsbury’s has recalled some batches of a cheese product because of the possible presence of Salmonella.

The supermarket and the Food Standards Agency have issued warnings about Sainsbury’s Mexican Style Chilli Cheddar and have urged customers not to eat the affected items. Shoppers are being advised to return the packs to a store for a full refund.

In its product recall warning, the retailer says: "As a precautionary measure, Sainsbury’s are recalling three batches of its by Sainsbury’s Mexican Style Chilli Cheddar 200g, as they may contain Salmonella. Please do not consume this product with these best before dates.

"If you have bought one of the affected batches of this product, we advise you not to open or consume it. For a full refund, please return the product to store, contact our Customer Services Careline on 0800 636 262 or visit our help centre via help.sainsburys.co.uk

"Other products and date codes are not affected by this recall. Sainsbury’s apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation."

Best before: 12 June 2023, 22 June 2023 and 30 June 2023

Risk statement: The possible presence of Salmonella in the product listed above. Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

Action taken by the company: Sainsbury’s are recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
