Sainsbury's recall dates as they may be contaminated with Hepatitis A

The Food Standards Agency has issued an urgent warning over Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Medjool dates which may be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

Symptoms caused by Hepatitis A include fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, dark-coloured urine and jaundice.

The FSA said Sainsbury's is recalling the products and point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

Customers who have bought the dates are being urged "do not eat them."

Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."

The FSA issued a warning about the Taste the Difference Medjool Dates (FSA)

The recall applies to 200g and 500g packs of the dates with all best before dates. The supplier code is K0014 EW.

The warning said: "It has been brought to our attention that packs of Taste the Difference Medjool Dates 200g and 500g with a supplier/site code of K0014 EW may be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

"We are asking customers who have purchased these products with this specific supplier code not to eat them and to return them to their nearest Sainsbury's store for a full refund when they next visit for groceries and other essentials.

"Please note that packs without this code present are not affected."
